Screen recording tasks allow participants to record their screen while completing an activity, giving you direct visibility into how they navigate websites, apps, or prototypes. This guide covers setup, the participant experience, supported browsers, and how to analyze recordings.
Adding Screen Recording Tasks
During project setup, select Screen recording from the question type dropdown. You will then provide:
- A task description explaining what the participant should do
- A task URL pointing to the website or prototype they will interact with
Participant Experience
Mobile (Influence App)
Participants receive the task notification in the same way as video questions. They navigate to the specified URL, complete the task while recording, and upload their recording as a response.
Desktop Browser
The interface displays a task pane on the left and the task URL on the right. Participants share the task pane screen to begin recording, then click Finish task when they are done.
Key requirements for desktop participants:
- No browser extensions are required
- A stable internet connection and working camera/microphone are needed
- The survey must not open in a full-screen window
- Mobile web browsers do not support screen sharing — use the Influence community app for mobile devices
Supported Browsers
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Apple Safari (version 12.1 and above)
- Microsoft Edge (version 80 and above)
Analyzing Recordings
Completed screen recordings appear in your project alongside other video responses. You can analyze them using the same tools available for standard video response analysis, including themes, sentiment, and showreels.
